The racing career of Canada's fastest man on the water, Art Asbury, ended today when he failed to answer the starter's gun for this, his final race. Art set the World Water Speed Record of 184.54 mph on November 1, 1957. This still stands as a Canadian Water Speed Record today; forty-six years, a record in itself!

Art had been in declining health for the last few years.

His final request has been honoured. He was cremated and a private memorial service will be held to celebrate his life.

Among those who mourn his passing are his wife, Eloise; step-children Charlotte (Ben), Charles (Joyce), Bill (Sharon); step-grandchildren Randy (Christine), Shannon (Brian), John, Daniel, Janice, Chad, Dean, Shannon, Kevin, Amber and Justin; step-great grandchildren Cheyenna, Keanyn, Tara, Kieran, Brennan and Jadyn; nephew Chuck and Shannon Boothby.

Art is survived by his sister Lorraine Willis and predeceased by his parents, James and Annie, brother Victor, sisters Janet, Nellie and Mary along with his step-daughter, Mauri.
